GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The primary function is achieved by tapping into each employee's highest potential and creating a highly effective team through coaching and leadership. This position is responsible for ensuring that outstanding service is delivered to both internal and external members. Ensure each employee identifies specific needs and suggests appropriate Credit Union solutions. Accountable for overseeing and coordinating workflow for both Direct and Indirect Loan Underwriting. Responsible for balancing the risk and reward of consumer credit decisions while minimizing liability to the credit union and consequently, directly impacting the overall financial performance of the direct consumer loan portfolio. Ensure the timely underwriting of Direct and Indirect Consumer loans within Federal Regulations and credit union policy and procedure without jeopardizing integrity, confidentiality, and accuracy. Display functional expertise and leadership directly affecting the development of new lending policies, procedures, processes, sales techniques, and credit products. Accountable for budgeted loan production for direct and indirect consumer loans and student loans as well as making decisions within existing policies as established by the Board of Directors, President-CEO, EVP-CLO, and SVP-Consumer Lending.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Oversee Consumer Lending Underwriting (Direct, Indirect and Merchant Lending).
2. Leadership, Personal/Organizational Development
a. Is responsible for monitoring the day-to-day activity within Consumer Lending (direct, indirect and merchant lending) as well as Student Lending. Answers questions of policy and procedures. Has Loan exception authority. (Current portfolio $290MM direct consumer loans, $960 MM indirect loans and $50MM credit cards)
b. Ensures direct consumer loans are underwritten in a timely manner and within guidelines/procedures with exceptions documented appropriately within established authority.
c. Ensures loan underwriting channels are integrated and operating at levels to exceed member and dealer expectations.
d. Closely monitors market conditions and industry trends to ensure pricing is fair and competitive.
e. Establishes and manages relationships with auto, marine, motorcycle, and RV dealers while promoting the utilization of products available through AFCU to obtain forecasted loan origination and revenue goals. Dealers will initiate contact at varied hours (including nights, weekends, and holidays) that often require immediate response in order to maintain meaningful relationships.
f. Demonstrate mastery of and perform the functions of a Consumer Loan Underwriter.
g. Underwrite and process employee and credit union official's consumer loan applications.
h. Underwrite and determine credit worthiness (Approve, Decline, Counter Offer) for member loan requests within given authority, as established by the Board of Directors.
i. Remain current and adhere to Credit Union policies and procedures as they pertain to security standards, applicable mortgage regulations, and Article 9 UCC laws' title laws as well as working knowledge of title registration for Arkansas and out of state.
j. Responsible for analyzing and maintaining Consumer Loan Underwriting policies, procedures, and processes to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and maximize efficiency.
k. Recommends alterations or revisions to loan policies and procedures.
l. Develops required new policies and procedures for approval by the President-CEO and/or Board of Directors.
m. Ensures Credit Scoring system is up-to-date and accurately reflects the risk vs. reward in the credit unions loan portfolio.
n. Address issues and/or concerns with members, dealers, and/or other related 3rd parties as they arise.
o. Communicate and correspond regarding loans or applicable collateral/security.
p. Counsels with members having complex or "exceptional" problems requiring special knowledge or authority. Advises the SVP-Consumer Lending and/or the EVP-Chief Lending Officer of unusual complaints, calls, and letters received.
3. Administration, Community Involvement
a. Monitor, interpret and communicate Lending Regulations to necessary personnel, as they pertain to Direct Consumer Loans (Sales, Underwriting, Processing, ).
b. Educates credit union lending staff with the assistance of the SVP-Consumer Lending, Direct Consumer Lending staff, Indirect Lending staff and select Service Center Leadership, on new sales opportunities and techniques, service philosophies, and workflow enhancements.
c. Participates in Lending Lunch and Learn and continued training for credit union lending staff.
d. Prepares and analyzes weekly and monthly reports on loan workflow results and production as well ensuring review of daily audit reports.
e. Ensure a positive working relationship between service center lending staff, Member Development, Direct Loan Underwriters and Indirect Loan Officers.
f. Serves on the Loan Review Committee, as assigned.
g. Responsible for ensuring maintenance of all data processing systems as they relate to Direct Consumer Lending. Complete any data processing option changes in a timely manner for each required change. Systems include but are not limited to MeridianLink, DealerTrack, RouteOne, CUDL, Glia(Phone), and Lending Express.
h. Assists in the preparation of the Annual Plan/Budget.
i. Conduct meetings with staff to provide direction, review progress, and continually look for ways to streamline the workflow.
j. Ensure training of Member Development Specialists, Loan Underwriters and any other applicable lending staff. Assign, direct, coordinate and review work performed by Direct and Indirect Consumer Lending staff.
k. Coach underwriting staff on audit findings, regulation and policy and procedure changes.
l. Ensure that time punches, PTO and Holiday hours are correct for each employee pay period.
m. Maintains a positive and productive working environment.
4. Ensure annual evaluations of work performance are performed for all Direct Consumer Lending staff. Recommend promotions/salary increases within the department to the SVP-Consumer Lending.
a. Maintains current knowledge and pursues executive education to remain constantly aware of compliance, regulations, new ideas, approaches, and day-to-day changes in the credit union movement and financial industry. Maintains knowledge of credit union history, philosophy, organization, bylaws, and operational procedures.
b. Participates in community activities and organizations as a representative of the Credit Union and maintains current knowledge of the needs of the communities served.
c. Participate in Organizational projects as assigned.
d. Provides the Supervisory Committee, Certified Public Accountants and federal examiners with information on Lending procedures and ensures that needed information is available for their u.
5. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Broad knowledge of such fields as accounting, marketing, business administration, finance, etc. Equivalent to a four year college degree, plus 7 years related experience and/or training, and 5 years related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PREFERRED SKILLS
• Proficient in MeridianLink
• Familiar with Fiserv DNA
• Knowledgeable with indirect auto lending
• Previous leadership experience in the consumer lending industry
