GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Develop a highly effective team of employees and developing each employee to their highest potential through coaching and leadership. Accountable for overseeing and coordinating workflow for business loan underwriting, processing, and treasury management services. Responsible for balancing risk and reward of business loan credit decisions while minimizing liability to the Credit Union and consequently, directly impacting the overall financial performance of the business loan portfolio. Ensure the timely underwriting and processing of business loans within State and Federal Laws and Regulations, UCC's Regulations, and Credit Union policy and procedure without jeopardizing integrity, confidentiality, and accuracy. Execute Strategic plans to drive revenue growth and/or decrease expenses. Display functional expertise and leadership directly affecting the development of new lending policies, procedures, processes, sales techniques, and credit/deposit products. Accountable for budgeted business loan and deposit production, profitability, portfolio outstandings, as well as making decisions within existing policies as established by the Board of Directors, President/CEO, and EVP/CLO. Build a high quality sales team across a diverse geography to achieve the corporate goals of the Credit Union.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Leads, directs and monitors all aspects of Member Business Services (i.e. Business Loans and Treasury Management) to ensure goals and objectives are met while maximizing profitability and efficiency within the business unit. Current Member Business Loan portfolio is $100 million and business deposits are $30 million.
  2. Responsible for staff development within the department and overall portfolio growth, delinquency, loss and compliance with rules and regulations.
  3. Directs strategies for Member Business Services to support the organization's strategic plan. Guides new product development and evolving growth strategy for Member Business Services.
  4. When applicable, interviews borrower for business loans at their office, in-house, and by telephone. Answers borrower's questions pertaining to their loan during entire process. Work with borrower to resolve problems and questions relating to their loan application and financial information.
  5. When applicable, pre-screens loan requests for compatibility with credit union guidelines for safety and soundness. Obtains and reviews personal credit reports of guarantors, LTV ratios, disposability of collateral, and loan compliance with standards of NCUA 723 to determine feasibility of granting a loan. Interfaces with EVP/CLO to assess desirability of loans. Submits application package to Credit Analysts for underwriting.
  6. When applicable, establishes and negotiates the terms of under which credit will be extended, including the costs, repayment method and schedule and collateral requirements.
  7. Oversee the implementation of loan application processes on desirable loans pursuant to credit union policies and procedures. Gathers documentation from borrower during application process including, but not limited to financial statements, tax returns, collateral descriptions and related business paperwork to facilitate underwriting process. Works with Credit Analysts to oversee the analysis of the loan and assures that appropriate due diligence is performed by designated personnel including but not limited to appraisals, surveys, flood certifications, UCC searches, title insurance and environmental reports. Maintains check lists to control loan progress through approval, closing, and perfection of security interests. Trains other credit union staff as appropriate.
  8. Ensure the appropriate lending personnel reviews loan documents and covenants for accuracy prior to loan closing. Responsible for Member Business Loan closings. Assures that security interests are promptly filed and loan files are properly organized.
  9. Oversees an effective business development program. Contributes directly to the growth of the Member Business Services portfolio by personally generating new business lending and deposit relationships.
  10. Maintains ongoing relationships with borrowers to ensure compliance with loan covenants and financial statement requirements.
  11. Inspects collateral as needed and documents borrower visits in file. Advises and assists appropriate Collections staff with loan work-outs and TDRs.
  12. Provides updates and reports to senior management and the board of directors regarding progress of strategic plan.
  13. Establish various metrics and goals and ensure the achievement of those goals through continuous analysis and communication of results, while identifying areas in need of improvement and taking action to implement necessary changes or enhancements.
  14. Ensures competitive position of credit union's business services program in the market place. Analyzes market data and economic trends affecting the portfolio.
  15. Provide supervisory committee, certified public accountants, auditors and federal examiners with information on department, procedures and provide needed information for exam. Works swiftly to implement improvements within the business line, ensuring thorough documentation of decisions and actions.
  16. Recruit, manage, train and motivate direct reporting staff according to company procedures, policy and employment law; provide guidance to departmental manager on specific objectives; consult and advise on personnel related items including disciplinary action as well as provide professional development for staff; perform annual performance reviews and development plans.
  17. Accountable for modeling and managing loan analytics and overall portfolio trends and risks to ensure processes and procedures are in place and the credit union is operating in a safe and sound manner while continuing to grow the business.
  18. Works collaboratively with partners within the organization to develop campaigns and promotions to support Member Business Services growth.
  19. Monitors industry and regulatory changes to ensure compliance. Develops procedural changes that align with compliance requirements. Adjusts and/or develops products/programs to support changes in the regulatory environment.
  20. Serve as a non-voting member of the Asset Liability Committee to establish rate and fee pricing that supports a sound financial position for the credit union and its members. Ensures proper reporting and analytics are in place to review the business loan portfolio to identify areas of risk and/or concentration.
  21. Review performance of the Member Business Loan portfolio and reserve requirements and make recommendations to the CLO and CFO for any adjustments needed for the Allowance for Loan Loss Reserves.
  22. Serve as Chairman of the Member Business Loan Committee to review and decision new loans, renewals/refinances, annual reviews, criticized assets, and other related matters.
  23. Serve as Sponsor/Team Leader on organizational projects/departmental projects as needed.
  24. Plan and manage internal communications with staff in relation to corporate direction, mission and goals.
  25. Actively participate in professional organizations and civic organizations to promote and enhance the communities the credit union serves, especially in areas related to economic development, local business development and small business advocacy.
  26. Develop and manage annual budget for the department; Solve problems in a fast-paced environment where new variables are constantly emerging. Develop and implement business initiatives that support the overall strategic direction of the credit union; execute strategic plans to drive revenue growth and/or decrease expenses.
  27. Develop a highly effective team of leaders through coaching and leadership training. Develop, implement and review personal development plans or each direct report.
  28. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 4 year college degree
  • 8 years related experience and/or training
  • Broad knowledge of such fields as accounting, marketing, business administration, finance, etc.
  • 6 years related management experience

Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
